Installation “Drape House”
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Tokamachi, Japan "HOKOJI SHIKI 2018"
Designed for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in Japan, the “Drape House” Pavilion is a small “hojo space” of 2,73m x 2,73m x 2,73m.
The installation was selected by a jury composed of architect Hiroshi Hara, architect Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA) and Triennale director Fram Kitawaga. It was exhibited from July 29th to September 21st, 2018 in the exterior gallery of the Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama contemporary art museum, located at Tokamachi in Japan. The pavilion was part of an ensemble that constituted an architectural micro-village.
The “Drape House” is a small space able to host performances and small displays. During the Triennale, it featured a traditional weaving loom. It is formed by a metallic structure that supports bronze-colored metallic meshes, as a way to reference traditional Japanese architecture. The suspended meshes create curves that filter light delicately.
